How it works

How it works

The whole system is built around a single constraint: nothing at the counter may change. Everything else follows from that.

Tap the card

01

We print your cards

You tell us how many stamps make a reward and what the reward is. We draw the card with your art and your name, and print a unique code on every single card. No two cards are alike.

02

You stamp exactly as you do now

The cards sit on the counter, the customer takes one, you press the stamp. Nothing else changes — no till to connect, no staff to train, no screen to wait for.

03

The customer scans whenever they like

Not in the queue and not at the counter — at home, on the bus, any time at all. A page with their card opens. From that moment a lost piece of board no longer means lost stamps.

04

The card moves into the phone wallet

In phase 2 the card can be added to Apple or Google Wallet, and the phone announces a ready reward by itself at no per-message cost. This part is not built yet.

05

A full card replays

The reward gets claimed and the card is scanned once more, becoming the next card and carrying the streak forward. The streak is the thing that actually brings people back.

Open question

What we don’t know yet

The number that decides whether this is a business is embarrassingly simple: what share of people scan a QR code printed on a card already in their hand. If Coftea’s own regulars won’t, no other shop’s customers will either — and we find that out for the price of one print run rather than a year of building. It is the first thing we will measure, and we will publish it either way.
